Losing weight is one of the biggest issues of our day. The diet industry is a multi-billion dollar machine that keeps growing like waist-lines. Diet’s simply don’t work. Well, they do work, but only temporarily. I remember years and years ago doing the Cabbage Soup diet. It worked for about five days. Then, it didn’t and boy did it didn’t! And whatever weight I lost in those few days came right back. That’s the “beauty” of diets, they work, just temporarily.
Some diets are so regimented that the slightest deviation results in weight gain. Programs like Weight Watchers benefit many people for many, many years. People thrive on WW’s approach of “Just do this, one size fits all” syndrome. I never lost weight on WW and didn’t appreciate all of the chemicals in their pre-packaged frozen foods.
The “liquid” protein diets like Isogenix are always interesting. If you’re going to consume protein why not just enjoy eating it instead of drinking it? If you’re worried about counting calories (which I don’t recommend) then why not just eat the same amount of calories in meat/fish that you would drink in liquid form? Then you’ll save money by not buying another product, enjoy eating and get more benefit from eating protein in its intended form.
People are tired, frustrated and feel shamed about being overweight. Images of what society thinks we should look like, emaciated models and muscle-bound physiques, permeate the media. If you feel guilty about the way you look and feel, then you’ll always be a loyal customer of some weight-loss gimmick, gym membership, or diet book(s).
When looking into the best option for losing weight, ask yourself these questions”
- What do I want?
- How am I going to get it?
- How long will it take?
- How long will it last?
- What do I have to do to accomplish my goal?
- Is my goal realistic?
- Will I be using life-long, sustainable strategies or is this a temporary fix to a permanent problem?
- What/who is holding me back?
- Am I using food to satisfy an emotional need or cope with stress?
- Can I solve this by myself or would it be easier to have support?
Answering these questions will provide you insight into the best approach for losing weight and feeling great, once & for all, and for the rest of your life!
