Teenagers don’t always listen to their parents and parents don’t always feel comfortable addressing certain issues with their teens.
The purpose of this class is to bridge this gap by bringing parents and teens together in a safe and non-judgmental environmental. This class supports parents in wanting their teens to make the right choices and to support teenagers in making the right choices regarding:
- Alcohol, Smoking, Drugs (Illegal & Legal)
- Food and Lifestyle habits
- Money Management
- And so much more!
Classes are separated by gender. Teen girls will bring their mother or an adult female role model. Boys will bring dads or male role figure. What goes on in the class, stays in the class. We want everyone to feel safe in expressing their thoughts and feelings as they work through the topics. It’s important to involve the parents to reinforce the material and to bridge their relationship while fostering teenage independence.
Each group class will last 2hrs. There are two (4) week sessions that can be taken independent of one another. They’ll be “homework”, outside activities too but no tests. I use video, print material, and my own life experience of situations good and bad. I am also a high school youth ministry partner at my church, Southeast Christian in Parker. All participants are expected to participate. Therefore, the atmosphere will be a “no judgement/no guilt” confidential and safe zone for plenty of discussions. Confidentiality is a must.
The mission of these classes is that teens will be better equipped to manage themselves physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially. Teens will better understand how to respond in a variety of situations, understand what their needs are and how to meet those needs safely, morally and healthily.
