Back in 1996, while living in Saudi Arabia I met an American woman, “Carol”, who was working with one of the Saudi Royal families. Now before you get impressed there are tens of thousands in the Royal family. Carol was helping some of the family members lose weight. I asked her what approach she was using. She said “the 1200 calorie-a-day diet.” Carol then said, “They can eat whatever they want but they have to stay within 1200 or less calories.”
Not all calories are alike. If someone were to eat 1200 calories a day in ice cream, one of my dream foods, they would still actually gain weight. How is that you say? Because food causes a chemical reaction or response when we smell it, taste it, feel it, eat it and digest it! Also, counting calories does nothing for meeting nutritional needs and making peace with food. This is why I do not recommend counting calories especially without knowing how to use them safely and effectively.
